Teaming Up with the Roslindale Arts Alliance

Improvisers know we’re stronger together.

At our core is collaboration, a muscle we work on so diligently in order to engage audiences immediately. It’s how we’ve kept them coming back laughing for the past 35 years to see ComedySportz in now 30 cities across the U.S. and Europe, as the widest-reaching, all ages-friendly live comedy show in America.

Saturday, April 6th you can catch us practicing what we preach - we’re joining forces with the Roslindale Arts Alliance (RAA) to host a brand new youth scholarship fundraising event. This special, community-focused event will feature a full ComedySportz® match + a Silent Auction/Raffles featuring local artists, with a portion of the ticket sales going to the Youth Arts Scholarship

RAA Co-Founder Janice Williams began the Youth Arts Scholarship last year, during the 20th anniversary of the TV show “It’s All About the Arts” (on BNN), as a result of money raised from sponsors and event ticket sales.

The scholarships, which students apply for, encompass any type of art, from visual arts and music, to performance, dance, and design. RAA is looking to raise as much money as possible with the hope to provide as many scholarships as it allows.

We couldn’t be more proud or excited to be part of what we feel is a meaningful way to contribute to the community of Roslindale and Boston as a whole.

We recognize deeply how valuable it is to support and encourage a young person’s curiosity in art education, whether it’s improv, dance, music, painting, drawing, video production, writing - it allows for expression, builds confidence, fosters communication, celebrates diversity, and it builds communities.

What is ComedySportz?
Two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot, in the spirit of TV's Whose Line Is It Anyway? A referee governs the action, calling fouls and keeping the match moving at a blistering pace. An average of seven to twelve games are played during a ComedySportz match, drawn from a list of over a hundred improv games. Every match is different, with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz® also asks “willing volunteers” to join us for a game or two each match, and we make them look great! ComedySportz plays in 30 cities nationwide, in Europe, and now...Boston! We've been answering the call since 1984.
